Try “mid-week (Sunday-Thursday)” Beyond lower rates, this time can offer fewer crowds and less-stressful time for parents. For instance, at many mountain resorts, early summer and fall shoulder seasons are gorgeous, and offer the same activities as in mid-summer.

Consider smaller, independent properties. These resorts may offer better rates, more space, and greater convenience.
